Kelantan, Malaysia – Nineteen students from Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau (UIN SUSKA Riau) are currently undertaking an International Community Service Program (KKN) in Gua Musang, Kelantan, Malaysia. This program is a result of collaboration with Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Ismail Petra (KIAS).
The International Community Service Program aims to provide practical experience to students in cross-national community service, as well as strengthen academic and cultural relations between Indonesia and Malaysia. The activities span one month, from July 23, 2024, to August 23, 2024.
During the program, students will engage in various social, educational, and cultural activities in Gua Musang. These activities include teaching at local schools, conducting skills training for the community, and promoting cultural exchange between the two countries through various events.
The delegation from the Research and Community Service Institute (LP2M) was represented by Prof. Dr. Leny Nofianti M.S., S.E., M.Si.Ak., C.A, as the head of LP2M, accompanied by the LP2M secretary, Dr. Alex Wenda, ST., M.Eng. The delegation from UIN SUSKA Riau was warmly welcomed by KIAS officials, including Dr. Nurul Akma bt Mohamed, the Deputy Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, and Ust. Ilias bin Ahmad, the Senior Assistant Registrar for Student Development and Co-curriculum.
Prof. Dr. Leny Nofianti, the head of LP2M UIN SUSKA Riau, stated that this International Community Service Program is an important step in broadening students’ horizons and experiences. “We hope that the students can make the most of this opportunity, bringing positive benefits to the local community and enhancing Indonesia’s reputation on the international stage,” she said.
The KIAS representatives also expressed their enthusiasm for this collaboration. The Rector of KIAS, represented by the Deputy Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, Dr. Nurul Akma bt Mohamed, said, “We are pleased to establish this partnership with UIN SUSKA Riau. This International Community Service Program not only benefits the students but also strengthens the relationship between our two countries.”
KIAS has also facilitated transportation from and to the airport, provided accommodation and transportation from KIAS to Gua Musang, and supplied essential needs for the students during their Community Service Program in Gua Musang.
From August 8-10, the 19 students from UIN SUSKA Riau are scheduled to join 80 students from KIAS for a student expedition program. This program is designed to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the students of both universities through various collaborative and interactive activities.
The participating students also expressed their enthusiasm. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to learn and contribute directly to the international community. We hope to give our best during our stay here,” said Raisa Kamila, one of the Community Service participants.
